My English progress from 2008-2010

I am very happy to end a period of my life. Now, I am going to compare my first written document and my last composition.

The presentation presents a little change. Perhaps, now I don’t abuse of the pictures on the posts because I don’t need disguise my writing. The content, at difference of the presentation suffer a big change. Currently, I am very worried about it. Maybe, because I learnt a lot of ways to realize a good structure that help me a lot to organize my ideas. The vocabulary, as is normal, I learnt a lot of words on these two years. Because of that, I achieve to improve the posts.

If I have to emphasize any point of my progress, I think that I get over a bit my nervous. It is reflected on my last oral presentation. It is true that I was nervous too, but I realize a good work. I remembered about all that I had to say, my gestures are more normal.

Perhaps, my pronunciation is the worst thing that I have. I am very conscious about it, and I will try to improve on the summer. But it is very difficult to me, because as you know, If my pronunciation on Catalan is bad, on English it couldn’t be very difference…

Obviously, I see a personal development in my blog. Perhaps, now the vocabulary that I use is more varied, and the ideas are more clears. But, I think that my best improvement is on the structure of the post. It is because on the class we were working it, and now I am very conscious that this is very important too.

My English Competence in 2010

Currently, I f I have to choose my best oral evidence to show my English level to apply for my university perhaps I choose the last one oral presentation that I did. But, I think that it couldn’t be a good thing for me, because me oral level is very bad…
But, If I have to choose my best written evidence, I’ll choose the BlackBerry post. I think that I select them because I tried to use a lot of specific vocabulary, because is a technologic machine, and the structure of the post is very clear.

Hello everybody, I’m Víctor Rosillo and I’m going to talk about my research project. The topic is anemia.

I choose this topic because is on the scientific area, that I am and I would be the next year. Because I would like to study an engineer.
Moerover, I choose this topic and no other cientific topic because on my famili there are some people who suffer the disease. On specific Iron deficiency anemia. And I thought that it could be a good idea learnt some thing about it to help their of the best way as possible.

My objectives are: the study of anemia, the study of the iron deficiency anemia, and the determination of iron on a medicine against the illnes on the laboratory by two techniques.

The theory part of my project is about the anemia in general.
Anemia is a blood’s disiease that decrease in number of red blood cells. On this situation the hemoglobin, one of the most importants components of the red blood cells, can’t do it his main function which consist on: carry oxygen from the lungs to the tissues.


The main cause of anemia may be classified as impaired red blood cell (RBC) production, increased RBC destruction and the blood loss.

To treat the disease, first you’ll have to know what kind of anemia is, the cause and the seriousness of it. Then the doctors will chose the best treatment.
The objective of the treatment is increase the quantity of oxygen that the blood can carry.

To fulfill the objective, first the patient will change his diet. If the change don’t found he’ll have to use some medicines. On an extreme situation the surgery can be the last solution.

When I finished the theory part, I did the practical part. To realize them, first I use the spectrophotometry. Consist on the quantitative measurement of the reflection or transmission properties of a material as a function of wavelength.

First, I prepared solutions of different concentration. Of 2,4, 6, 8 and 9 milligram per liter. Then I determinate the absorbance of the solution and with them I made the king straight. Finally I determinate the absorbance of the problem solution and I fix the quantity of iron on a medicine against anemia.

The result it was very good. We determinate 102,6 in front of the 105 milligrams determinate by the prospect of the medicine. This small difference can be causes by a red layer that cover the pill, or because of the bad and imprecise quality of the laboratory’s material.




Afterwards, I used the redox tritation. are based on a redox reaction between an oxidizing agent and a reducing agent( the iron)

The result of iron on a pill that I determinate was 96,9 milligrams. I suppose that this error could be cause another time by a bad material.

Finalized the research project, I can say that I fulfill my objectives. And I didn’t suffer any setback. Moreover, I think that the experience is very positive because of now I can say what is anemia, and I have learnt to use two different technical of determination, but overcoat I learn to use the laboratory’s elements.

I think that the research Project helped me a lot to consolidate some aspects of chemistry that I did in class, and to learned a lot of new things.

Finally, I can say that the project give me a small idea about the laboratory‘s chemist, which can be very useful on my imminent future if I decide to do an chemistry engineer the next year.


Opinion:

This is my second oral presentation of the year. Because of that I hope that everybody could saw an improvement. I used a lot of resources: A PowerPoint, and a lot of pictures which helps to me to do a better presentation.
As you can see on the video, I was very nervous like the other time, but I think that I was looked all the time at the audience and I didn’t read my notes because I wanted to hold the attention on my topic and not on me.

I can say that the structure of the exposition it was the correct because was very important to me on my research project. The ideas were in order and correctly links. I say that some of the audience was interested on my topic, anemia. I believe that I used a rich and scientific vocabulary because it was very necessary to talk about the disease.

In spite of that, I think that the pronunciation was very bad because of I was very nervous, and because If I am realist I don’t know talk well in English. I would like to improve my pronunciation but I think that is very difficult for me If I won’t go to England or similar.

Finally, I have to put my own mark. At difference of the other presentation that I think that I deserved a low mark, on this time I believe that I get a 7,5. I will improve the next time a littler more. 

Human rights are not respected. Perhaps it's time to do away with them

Human rights are rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled, and doesn't depend on the area, the skin's colour or the religion. As they are not respected on all planet, I think that we have to do something about the problem.

First of all, we can change some article which we don't believe indispensable. Later, we can establish some new article if we believe that could be important.

Moreover, the most important countries like USA, Canada and China have to look forward that this law, the Human Rights are respected by everybody.

As you know, currently exist so many countries that not respect those rights, but I think that we can't give up. If we push and focus our own objective, we will help to a lot of poor people.

To sum up, I would say that human rights are not respected on some areas around the world, but are respected on a lot of countries. Because of that, we have to continue looking for some good solution.

Computers have made the world a better place?

According to the people, the technology have made the world a better place. Do you have a computer? If do you have a computer, do you use them a lot? Experts say that 7 about 10 people use computer every day.
One the one hand, computers spend a lot of electricity and is more expensive than use a simple paper to do some actions. Moreover, if you pass so much hours use the PC, you can get a bad habit. Furthermore, with computers the feelings which could feel children when he played football or with toys is very different like a boy in front of a PC
On the other hand, with computers we have more free time because is very faster use them. Because of that we can enjoy with our activities that before we didn’t have enough time to did it. Adding to that, computers introduce to us a lot of new things like Internet. With Internet we can have a relationship with a friend of Asia, because it is free.
All in all, I believe that computers have the world a better place because If we use the technology with measure, we don’t spend a lot of time to do some simple things and we will have more time to enjoy.

What are my dreams?

Hello teacher, I am Víctor Rosillo a simple boy of seventeen years old who lives in Empuriabrava. Always my parents have thought that I am a very inteligent boy, but the last year my marks are very poor and they have started to change of mind.
Why I say my parents’s opinion are you asking. Because I think that the last year I gave up on my studies. Because of that I thought that they were right, but now I want to improve in my life. The first instance is meet my goals and later push and focus them.

When I was a child I wanted to be a news reporter like the people who appears on tv and work in some office with a partner because I wasn’t so ambicius. But now I change of mind. I understand that If I work very hard, I will be the person who I want.

Because of that, to try of fulfill my goals I am going to study very hard. As you know, now my objectives are very different as a news reporter. Today my challenge is study a lot to be an engineer in the future, but not a simple worker, I want to be one of the best engineers of Spain.

Perhaps, you think that my dream is very boring, and I have to say to you that you have reason. Because my dream is not to be engineer as I said before.

My dream it is very simple, I will be very happy if my parents are proud of me. Because of that, the word failure doesn’t exist on my dictionary. And my parents will be proud of me if I be happy. To fulfill my dream the first instance is to get good marks to go on Barcelona university where I want to study, and try to enjoy the way……………..

On the way of my life I want to be part of a family. I want to get married and I will want to see born my son. Then I’ll say “No one has whitten your destinity for you”.

Reflection:

On my first oral presentation of the year I used a lot of resources: A powerpoint, some pictures and two funny videos which help me to do a better presentation.As you can see on the video I was very nervous, but I think that I looked all the time at the audience. And I read my notes occasionally but I tried to hold the attention of my audience.
The ideas that we explained were in order, and we use a lot of connectors to made the ideas more clear. I hope that the audience were very interested with the information that we explained because it wasn’t easy for us made it. I believe that it was a short, but a happy presentation because the videos are very funnies.As I said before, I think that our oral presentation was very short, but we used rich vocabulary because we looked a lot of words to the dictionary. Moreover we used a lot of connectors.
In spite of that, I think that the pronunciation and intonation was very bad. I don’t like to repeat the things that I said, bit I was very nervous and I could’t talk with normality.Finally I ‘ll have to put my own mark. As I am realist I believe that I get a 5,75. But I hope that the next time I ll do it a good presentation.

Well, more less.The world humour means: a message whose ingenuity or verbal skill or incongruity has the power to evoke laughter.
But what do you think?Is there an international humour? Or humour is culturally specific?In our opinion, we think that the humour depends of each culture for different reasons.
• Because you can’t say some things which can offend to another people of different cultures: For example: In Islamic culture the religion is very important, because of that you can offend them if we try to some topics.
• Moreover, the English humour for example isn’t same as Spanish humour, if a British men tells a joke , a lot of British people can laugh with them, but Spanish people can misunderstand and don’t get the idea of the joke. Quickly: What do you get when you cross the Atlantic with the Titanic? About half way.OK, I don’t see the humour point in this joke, and you? Well, it is because the humour is culturally specific.
Let’s go with the most important point of humour:As you know, in the World exists a lot of bad situations. Some experts, patients and doctors say that the best way to forget our problems it’is with humour therapy.Laughing is found to lower blood pressure, reduce stress hormones, increase muscle flexion, , and produces a general sense of well-being. Moreover, Laughter is infectious. Because of that a lot of Hospitals around the country are incorporating formal and informal laughter therapy programs into their therapeutic regimens. And In countries like India the government have created laughing clubs with a positive results.Now, we are going to watch a video.Enjoy them. We have almost learnt to respect our world. Do you agree?

In Spain the major part of the population doesn’t respect their country, as you can see in the streets. In my opinión, unlike in others countries such as England, France, etc we don’t have enough environmental conscience, because of that, I think that we haven't learnt to respect our world yet.

First of all, I think that one of the reasons is the education which our children receive at school, where there are a lot of children who break a lot of things, waste schoolar’s material, etc and the teachers don’t say anything. This point is a key factor to learn to respect our world, and it is important to learn that as soon as posible. Intending to change the behaviour of the population is an impossible thing, but teaching our children is possible.

Secondly, this section is related to the first, because another Fac., which we don’t put into action but that I think could be good to respect our world consists in changing the law. With this form the people who don’t respect the country could be fined: like in France where if the police see you throw away a chewing gum, they can fine you.

To sum up, I would say that we haven't learnt to respect our world yet, because in Spain there is no environmental conscience, but if we start with simple things, as I said befote, we could achieve something.

Thanks for your letter. I’m happy to hear that you’re well. You were asking me which kind of place Castelló is. I recommend, as I’ve told you before, for a perfect holidays, Castelló is an ideal town.

Castelló is the typical town where there is a relaxed atmosphere to forget the problems, and where you can go to the beach.
At night, you soon meet people, because there is an area where you can spend excellent moments, sing, dance...

The town is in a rural area, with a lot of agriculture, but there is a commercial area, too. In Castelló, as I`ve said before, you can go to the beach, or if you want, you have the opportunity to go skydiving, see historical monuments, etc.
Anyway, you can go to Barcelona too, which is a magnific place to see a lot of important things like: the Sagrada Familia, El Camp Nou, El Parc Güell.

One more thing-if you come here, you’ll need a swimsuit, and the most important thing, the illusion. Anyway, let me know what you’re going to do.

My 3rd oral presentation

Own observation:

As you know, it was my last presentation of the year, and I think that I improve a lot with the resources that I used. I used a powerpoint with the essential information, with a lot of pictures.
The powerpoint helps me to support my presentation, with the correct time.

It is true that I was very nervous, but I think that I was looking the audience the most of the time possible. Occasionally I read my notes, but only when I wanted know some small details.

The structure of my presentation it was the correct, and there were in order like the content, which I think that it was the correct and also someone learnt something.But talking about the language you are absolutelly right when you told me that my vocabulary sometimes it wasn't correct and that I 've said a lot of incorrect words, but I have to say, that my vocabulary are right and varied as well.

If you ask me, what it is my weak spot, I answer that my weak pot it was the pronunciation, as you know it is the aspect of the most difficult for me, think which you can prove when I talk in others language like Catalan.

Waste

Hello I’m Víctor Rosillo, and today I’m going to talk about waste, one of the forms of contamination of the world.

Waste is unwanted or inusable materials. Also we refer to to as rubbísh or trash.

Waste is directly linked to human development, both technologically and socially because thirty years ago the society didn’t produce as much waste as today. Per capita waste generation in developed countries has increased by 35% since 1980.
For this same reason it is directly linked to the zone where we live and the awarness of the governements. For example, as you know the kind and amount of waste that Africa could be produce in one year is completely different to the waste of Europe Occidental.


Waste is sometimes a subjective concept, because sometimes somepeople throw away what other people find usefull.
Usually, the rich people throw away thnigs that are in good state and the poor people take it.
For example:In the restaurants at the end of the day, the workers, obliged by their boss, have to throw the food away and when I was working last summer in a supermarket Montserrat, I also had to throw away the food of the bakery.
In my personal experience, recently in Ampuriabrava I have seen people in dirty clothes looking into the waste cointainers reusing things that we throw away.

There are many waste types:
municipal solid waste (MSW)
construction waste and demolition waste (C&D)
institutional waste, commercial waste, and industrial waste (IC&I)
medical waste (also known as clinical waste)
radioactive waste, and electronic waste
biodegradable waste

The waste produces three differents costs: environmental, social and economical costs.

Environmental costs
Waste can contaminate water, soil and air wich causes a lot of problems for humans, animals and the ecosistem.
Waste can attract insects which can cause diseases.
Social costs
Waste managements is a significant environmental topic because the need for waste treatment and disposal facilities is increasing in all of the world.

But the problem is, that where the governements want to build a disposal factory people organize a lot of demostrations. Because of that exists few solutions.
Economic costs
The economic costs of managing waste are high and often are paid by governements. As always we, the citizens have to pay taxes but we don’t do anything to avoid it.
One way to avoid it, is to start educating children at school.
Another way is that we in our houses imply the three Rs:

Reduce, re-use and recycle.

Reduce in my opinion is the easiest work, because the only thing that we have to do is try to not use more products, things that we need.
Re-use: Sometimes the simple fact of use 2 times a paper helps to re-use.
Recycle: I think that it is the most difficult work to do, but anyway it is easy. One form to recycle in house is to divide your bins into the four categories of: paper, glass, plastic and organic material.

After talking about all this I want to compare the two Spains. The Spain of today, and the Spain of our sons.
Today we can drink all the water that we want,but maybe our children won’t be able to drink more than 2 glasses of fresh water a day because of the contamination.
Now, we can walk along the beach, the street in a normal situation but perhaps some years later they will have to use specials suits and masks.
These example are extreme, but if we don’t use the solutions which I said before, it could happen one day.

Oral presentation

I’m going to do a reflection of my Oral presentation.

In my second oral presentation, the resources which I use are powerpoint, sound, images,etc.
In this time, I think that the powerpoint is better than the other because we did not put a lot of text, we only put a lot of differents images, which are very expressive.
Because of that, the resources which I used helps me to realize a good work.
The timing of my oral presentation, it is correct.

I think, that my expression between the class, it is very good, because I did not very nervous, I was looking my audience the major part of the time. Also, I read some time, but it was not true that I read a lot, I read only to start the phrase, and in my opinion I improved my gestures thanks to it was the second time that I did an oral presentation.

The estructure of the text it was excelent in my simple opinion, we organized the ideas in the correct order, the major to minor importance, but also we did not use a lot of linking works to connect the differents points.

As you know, the country which we chose it was Jamaica, and I think that a lot of people know it, but only the simple things, we teached to the class a lot of interesting things as the typical food, the kinds of music of the country, etc as the things more emphasizes.
The information was detailed, in the best form possible, because we did not have enought time, but I think that with the examples the information was very clear.
First, we pretend to do an original work, but as you can imagine, we did not anything of Jamaica, and we had to look information to internet.

In the presentation, I used a good grammar, because I prepared at home the vocabulary, but it is true that sometimes when I did not remember something I could be used an incorrect word.
Moreover, also I used some synonym but not in the most important and repeated word that we pronounced, “island”.

The pronunciation, also it was the most negative thing that I did in my oral presentation, because as you know, it is an aspect difficult to me, and it is usually reflects on my speaking to catalan too.

Jamaica is an island nation of the Greater Antilles. It is situated in the Caribbean Sea.
Most major towns and cities are located on the coast.
The climate in Jamaica is tropical, with hot and humid weather.
Jamaica lies in the hurricane belt of the Atlantic Ocean; as a result, the island sometimes experiences significant storm damage.



Politic:

The jamaican constitution establish a parliamentary government sistem, as United Kingdom model where the first minister is the boss of the government.



Food and drink:

1. “Merey del diablo”: this fruit came from africa, and it’s one of the most used ingredients to prepare other meal like fish, souffle and other meals.

2. “Empanadillas”: one of the most important meals of jamaican people. They love it taste, also it came to the island with the colonization of the UK.

3. “Café Blue Mountain”: its one of the best coffies in the world, and with limited production it has a high price , the england royal family drinks this coffee.

4. “Rabbit in rum”: The rum is very important drink in the island, this meal needs 2 days to get finished, and its tasty and smells good.

Music:

Jamaica is a famous country in the world thanks to its music which is very famous in the world.
In Jamaica emphasize different kinds of music that are created in the island, like reggae, ska and dub.
Bob marley is one of the most representants of Jamaica, who with his music teached the jamaican culture around the world.
But actually, Sean Paul is the most famous singer of Jamaica, and Paul is recognized around the world.

The beach: There are a lot of beautiful beaches where you can pass your perfect holidays.

The dolphin cove that is a place where you have the opportunity of swim with delfins, for this I recommend you that if you can go there, you don’t think twice.

Finally I thing that the mark that I got it is a 7/10.

Should the experiments on human life have limits?

The question “ should the experiments on human life have limits” is a problem which is reflected in Frankenstein’s book, but it can also be possible in real life. It is a topic that has been existing for some years, when technology started to be used to colonize the world.

If scientists take it slowly and with precaution, they will be about to find the solution for a lot of problems. They will be able to improve life, to fight against a lot of diseases and consequently rise life expectancy. Also, they can discover new human capacities, of which until today we don’t know anything yet.

However, passing the limits of nature, can have a lot of catastrophic consequences, which might not have solutions. For example, a girl who wanted to improve her intelligence, beauty and physical appearence died in the hands of the scientists, a thing that is very different from the “death” of organisms in a laboratory.
Moreover, the religious conflicts play another important role, because in the world there is a high percentage of religous people, who think that Good is the only creator, and nobody else has the right to interfere.

In my opinion, I agree to human experiments, because I think it can be a good way to improve our level of life, and consequentely make us happier.
In relation to the religious conflict, even though I am religious, I believe that to solve a lot of problems and to save lives human experiments are positive.

Dear Ms. Pintó,

I have received the changes of the school calendar from the Department of Education which consist in:

1. starting the next term some days earlier,

2. starting school immediately after “Kings”,

and others changes that are not as important as the others.

I would like to take the opportunity to comment on them.

On the one hand, I agree that the Department has to look for new method to improve the academic level, but I think that the school should have asked, informed the students before taking a decision. I believe that we, as students, have a right to be asked because if not, this can create a conflictive atmosphere.

Moreover, I have to say that, in my experience, the change of calendar isn’t a good decision because every year that we had a change all my classmates and me protested against the decision.

I would be interested to hear other students’ opinions.

Hello everybody, I’m Víctor Rosillo and today I’m going to talk about different kinds of friends.

Now, we are going to look at the official definition.
A friend is...:
1-a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.
2-a person who gives assistance; patron; supporter.

As you know in the world there are people that you like immediately or you don’t like.
When you like a person you start a relationship.

There are different types of relationships: between parents and children, between lovers, between students and between real friends.
For me the most important relationship is between parents, because they are all for me. Between students and lovers is very nice, but today I’m going to talk about the real friends.

For me exist different kinds of friends:

1Friends I go out with

Those friends are the friends who I usually spent my time at nights at the weekends with.
I like them because I can trust them and we always spent a good time together.

With another group of friends we go out to do some differents activities. We go for a drink, to talk, go shopping and other things that we like.

3Friends I play football with

As we all know sport unites a lot. In particular football because it is the sport that I play. For example I have played all my life in one team and I have made a lot of friends, and now I’m in a new team. I have been playing for two months and I have already a lot of friends.

In the picture you can see my friends of all my live, and in the other photo my new team. The photo have two meanings. One: Is a photo of a football team, but have another meaning. 2: The photo say that the age don’t important in the relationships

Those are my very best friends. In general, I have known them since I was little. We talk about private things, about problems that we have.

Reflection

I’m going to do a reflection of my Oral presentation.

I think thay I used a lot of resources. Powerpoint, images..., but the mos important that the resource are very important for my oral.
The timing of my presentation is 4’36’’ and I think that is into the time.

In this time, a difference of another presentations that I did, I was looking the audience, and I didn’t read my notes. Occasionally I looked my notes, but I didn’t read.
